Alabama
In Alabama, all aspects of the sex trade—whether selling sex, buying sex, promoting it, or profiting from it—are completely illegal. The law treats both buying and selling sex the same, meaning a person can be charged with the same crime whether they're purchasing or providing sexual services. When adults are involved, this is considered a misdemeanor. However, if someone buys sex from a minor, it’s treated as a serious crime, a Class B felony. Recently, Alabama increased the penalty for human trafficking involving minors to a mandatory life sentence. Survivors of trafficking can have certain felony charges related to their trafficking cleared from their record, but this doesn’t apply to all offenses.
