Shobana Powell, LCSW is the Survivor Leadership Coordinator for Sanctuary for Families in New York City, where she oversees a program for survivors of gender-based violence who make system-wide change through advocacy, direct service work, training and program development. Ms. Powell previously ran a juvenile Mental Health Court in Louisiana, founded and directed a human trafficking coalition, and developed the first juvenile sex trafficking probation unit and multidisciplinary team in the State of Louisiana. She has her Bachelors in Social Work from New York University and her Masters of Science in Social Work from Columbia University. Ms. Powell is currently working on her Doctorate in Social Work from the University of Southern California.
